Ask Questions > Technical Question about 1-2-4-All

Hello - I love the book and my organization is getting a lot out of it (we help local governments be more cost-effective and financially sustainable). 1-2-4-all is proving a popular method and I'm wondering what people's experience has been with increasing the lengths of the periods for meatier questions (as opposed to simply doing additional rounds, as the book suggests)? My thinking is that longer periods would give people the extra time participants are looking for, while allowing things to remain on schedule. However, since there was no mention of such a strategy on the "riffs" I thought I'd ask to see if there was an reason NOT to do this. thanks!

Hello Shayne. Thanks for the kind words.

I have found that one or two additional short rounds go much deeper. 1-2-4-All is great for sifting and sorting existing ideas... plus generating new insights. However, if you are not getting a fabulous result, you may want to shift to another LS. Wicked Questions, Appreciative Interview, 25/10 Crowdsourcing, and TRIZ can reframe the challenge and reveal a unexpected surprise. Helpful?
