Building on a few methods introduced in EdgeWare in 1998, LS draw from emerging insights from complexity science, organizational development, improvisational arts, and user experience. Keith McCandless and Henri Lipmanowicz have partnered with clients to develop and refine a broad array of LS starting in 2003. Relections on the early developmental years here.

Many LS users have suggested that the Aristotle Project conducted at Google helps explain the science behind LS.  Read about Project Aristotle here.

The term Liberating Structures was first introduced by William Torbert a professor at Boston College. More background here.
